A Career in Public Communication

Clear communication is essential to effective public service. When organizations communicate clearly and transparently, communities are better informed, leaders can build trust, and complex work becomes easier for people to understand.

My career in communications has centered on helping public organizations explain their work, engage their communities, and support leaders with thoughtful, accurate messaging. I have worked in communications roles supporting municipal government, public safety leadership, and higher education, where my work has ranged from public information campaigns and media communications to executive messaging and internal communication systems.

During my time with the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities, I led communications and community outreach efforts for one of Utah’s largest municipal utilities. This work included producing press releases and digital content, coordinating public information campaigns around infrastructure projects and conservation initiatives, and developing new communication tools to improve public engagement and transparency.

Previously, I supported the Office of the Fire Chief at the Salt Lake City Fire Department, where I managed executive communications and helped translate departmental priorities into clear messaging for staff and the public. That experience reinforced the importance of accuracy, clarity, and thoughtful tone when communicating on behalf of public safety organizations.

Across these roles, I have consistently focused on translating complex operational or technical information into accessible messaging that supports informed communities and effective organizations. Whether coordinating communications across departments, producing public-facing materials, or supporting leadership communications, I approach each project with an emphasis on clarity, collaboration, and accountability.

I hold a Master of Business Administration in Project Management and a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication & Media Studies. My education complements my professional experience by strengthening my ability to plan complex projects, coordinate stakeholders, and deliver communication initiatives that support organizational goals.
